For your post to have the most impact take time to create a cohesive package of photo, information and song. While you can submit any photo you wish, keep in mind that people are going to be viewing how you present yourself through the filter of being a creative person and through the filter of the song you submit. So, for example, an obviously light hearted photo might not fit with an emotionally heavy song. For your bio or song information, it is always best to be concise. Start off with your artist name and name of the track (or vise versa) and how it relates to your body of work. For example, if it is part of an upcoming album mention that and mention if the album is a debut or your second, etc. It is always preferable to send a recent track. If you, for whatever, reason are sharing a track that is more than a couple years old it would be best if you re-mix and then post up on your Bandcamp or Soundcloud as a recent re-purposed, modified version of an older track. If you still want to submit an older track as is, hopefully mention when new material will be released (the sooner the better).
Other key things to remember:
A Bio or thoughts about the song in the third person reads better. Brevity is your friend. Most of all you want your song to do the talking for you so don't write a novel.
Brevity in your song is your friend as well. If this is one of your first forays into submitting a song to a blog, keep the song on the shorter side. Asking fresh ears to listen to a 9 minute song is asking a lot.
Be mindful that not everyone might use every streaming service so while sharing a Spotify or Apple Music link it is advisable that you also share a Soundcloud or Bandcamp link.
Share social links only if you use them quite often. Sharing a Facebook with bio info that hasn't been updated in 5 years and your band lineup has changed looks bad. In the same way, sharing an Instagram account that you only utilize 3 times a year is really pointless. There is nothing wrong with being an artist and not being into Social Media so only share if you use these platforms.
Most of all, have fun.
Cheers
Robb
