JAYLA DARDEN RELEASES VIDEO FOR “ONTO SOMETHING”
Debut EP Out Now On Sick Projects/ Interscope Records
November 19, 2019 — Los Angeles — Sick Projects/ Interscope Records R&B artist Jayla Darden has released a video for “Onto Something”, the title track from her debut project, Onto Something. Directed by Harry Israelson of Primary Colors.
Released on November 5 through Sick Projects/ Interscope Records, Jayla’s seven-song Onto Something EP not only showcases the 21-year old fresh-faced beauty’s remarkable talent as a singer-songwriter, but also her ability to produce, mix and even engineer her own music in the recording studio.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Darden, found her voice early. As a young girl, she loved singing along to “Hakuna Matata” from the original soundtrack of The Lion King. Her mother, a poet, took note of her 6-year-old daughter’s budding skills and found ways for her to expand upon them. “She encouraged me to sign up for chorus at school,” recalls Darden, “and I also sang in the church choir.”
By the time she was a teenager, Darden was writing and recording her own songs. She readily cites Aaliyah, Brandy and Beyonce as influences, and, of course, Missy Elliott, who she says inspired her to wield full control of her creative output.
Onto Something is a natural amalgamation of the artist’s hard work over the years and she is more than prepared to share it with the world. Darden describes the project’s sound as “melodic, soft tones, strong lyrics and hard drums.” Her strikingly sweet vocals on tracks like “Be Your Girl,” Sweating Me” and “Goofy,” drip seamlessly over her bouncy, self-crafted rhythms. Darden recently wrapped production on a music video for the title track, “Onto Something,” that will surface in the coming weeks.
Onto Something is available worldwide now on all digital platforms.
