"Blackwater Wood" from the upcoming 2020 album "Rooms within Rooms" by singer songwriter, musican, Ty Maxon, the follow up record to 2012's "Calling of the Crows" and while some similar themes are shared between the two albums, RwR represents a departure from previous work. Most noteworthy is the presence of a full band for 7 of the albums' 10 tracks consisting of a few of Chicago's finest who have long been deep-seated players within the city's various music communities including drummer Kevin O’Donnell who has recorded with Andrew Bird, Neko Case and Nickle Creek amongst others.
Born out of a period of turmoil, RwR is largely about a person's inner reality and the complications that this secluded part of the human experience presents as it manifests in the form of loneliness and despondency. But while the album calls from a place of purgatory - somewhere between the dark and light , there is a hope at the heart of each song that grants the overall work with a life- affirming, if not somewhat melancholic tone.
