PK and the In-Betweens is the latest project from singer/songwriter Paul Kleinert. Kleinert recently returned to the studio teaming up with Philadelphia Engineer/Producer Brian Bricklin (Bricklin, A&M Records; Martin's Dam, Sire/Hybrid Records) at the helm. I feel Kleinert's songs would resonate with fans of Tom Petty, Wilco, Old 97's and The Jayhawks.
Music critics once wrote that Kleinert’s songs were “…a thinking man’s pop” where “romanticism meets reality check.” The years have added some ragged wisdom, but Kleinert’s songwriting has matured nicely and is well worn, with the romanticism and hope still shining despite the reality check of heartache, regret and loss. PK and the In-Betweens is a promising second act for Kleinert and the songs show the kind of depth that you’d expect from a seasoned writer.
If you enjoy intelligent lyrics that tell a story while delivering melodies and hooks that stick in your head, then take a moment and visit the links below. In the song "Almost," Kleinert laments, "I got a lifetime of almost. I've gotta mountain of could’ve been. I had a shitload of so-close. The line is so fine, yeah it’s razor thin." Who couldn't identify with those words? PK and the In-Betweens deliver wonderfully-crafted tunes that will stand up over time.
I consider myself a fan and I hope you will agree with me after taking a listen. Highlights: "One by One" & "Almost"
